  • First manufactured at the National Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts, hence the term "Springfield" rifle.
  • Also known as the .30-.06.
  • The M1903 was basically a Mauser action that was greatly improved upon by American designers.
  • It served as the primary U.S. infantry weapon until the introduction of the M1 Garand (also in this case) in 1936.
  • Used successfully in World Wars I & II as well as in Korea.
  • Many Springfield rifles survive today as sporting rifles due to their accuracy.
  • The bayonet shown underneath is an accessory of this gun and is a good example of what would have been used during WWII.
