  • Gato Class WWII Submarine.
  • Served worldwide throughout the Second World War but is most recognized for its patrols in the Pacific.
  • Its most notable commander, Rear Admiral Eugene Bennett Fluckey, would go on to receive  the Medal of Honor for his actions attacking 30 Japanese ships in Namkwan Harbor.
  • Later decommissioned by the U.S. Navy in 1954 and loaned to the Italian government, which changed the vessel's name to the "Enrico Tazzoli".
  • Ended service in the Italian Navy in 1975 and subsequently sold for scrap.
