Iraqi-Issued AK-47 Bayonet

  • Presented to SPC Timothy Cochran while in Taji, Iraq (Jan-Feb 2005).
  • This bayonet, and others like it, were given to all the soldiers of the 428th Transportation Co. who served in Iraq from Feb. 2004 to Feb. 2005 as a convoy security element and were presented by 2nd Lt. Jeremy Ham and Major Keith Porter.
  • As displayed, the bayonet was also designed with the capability to cut barbed and razor wire, working in a scissor-like fashion.
  • The sheath of the bayonet was made so as to sharpen the blade while sheathing and unsheathing.
  • Mr. Cochran, now a Marshall with the City of St. Louis who provides security here at the museum, loaned this item to SM for display in  the Summer of 2012.
